For those thinking of a career as a Registered Gas Engineer but don’t have the necessary experience or have at least 2 years’ experience in a related trade and looking to gain the relevant Qualifications, Combined Heating Services Ltd’s range of Managed Learning Programs, (MLP) along with required work experience placement, will assist you to get to the level required in order to sit your ACS Gas Assessments and apply to join the Gas Safe Register.

We can offer you the training via the Mandatory MLP (Managed Learning Program ) route.


This is a bespoke experience tailored to each individual needs, depending on previous gas related experience .

From here you will be propelled on a journey of both theory and practical based training, gaining a vast knowledge of the gas industry transforming you into a competent ,confident and very knowledge Gas Safe registered engineer. 

Throughout this course you will gain a vast knowledge through practical training on a wide range of gas appliances from your everyday gas boiler, through to flueless gas fires, all while gaining hands on experience guided through the process by our highly experienced trainers and assessors.

As each module of the course is completed, you will carry out both theory and practical formative assessments, which all make up part of your portfolio. There will also be training centre compiled exams to see how you are progressing, so if a little extra help is required this can be provided with further training where necessary. On this course, nobody gets left behind , as we go above and beyond to help you through.

As well as in-house training at Combined Heating Services Ltd, candidates are required to complete a work placement with a Gas Safe registered engineer to enable them to gain relevant hands on experience, and provide an on-site work based ( supervised ) catalogue of completed portfolio tasks. This must be completed in full before ACS assessments can take place . 

    

This placement is a mandatory legal requirement and will assist with the knowledge required to sit the final Assessments.

Entry Requirements/Pre-Requisites

There are no pre-requisites for Applicants wishing to undertake any of our 5 MLP new gas learner courses


Course Overview

During the course you will complete both classroom theory based knowledge and practical workshop hands on training, to help you gain knowledge in all areas. Learners will receive help in building a Portfolio of evidence for the on-site work experience. You must be able to complete this alongside a Gas Safe Registered Engineer, and have those arrangements in place before you are asked to complete your on-site practical experience.

This course will also include mini tests and Assessments throughout to monitor and track your progress and knowledge.

Only on successful completion of the MLP Gas Diploma Course and the completion of Portfolio evidence will Learners be able to proceed to undertake the ACS Assessments.

The course duration will depend on the choice of MLP course that you decide and individuals learning progress

you are able to choose you training plan that will suit you from either one of the following 4 choices 


2 weekday every week ( 8.30 till 3.30 ) scheduled dates

2 daytime week days a month ( 8.30 till 3.30) flexible dates

2 weekday evenings a month (4.00 till 9.00 ) flexible dates

2 Saturday a month ( 8.30 till 3.30 ) flexible dates


Course Content

The Course begins with the basic principles of gas heating, plumbing and pipework before moving into more specific areas including gas safety, working with hot water systems and electrical installation.

During your in-Centre training, topics are broken down into easy-to-follow sections so that Learners can build up the knowledge and confidence to develop their practical experience and pass the required assessments.

  • Tightness Testing and Purging
  • Domestic Pipework Sizing and Pipework Installation
  • Safe Isolation , Electrical Systems & Components
  • Fault Finding 
  • Appliance Installation , Commissioning & Servicing 
  • Installation of Meters
  • Unvented Storage Systems

COURSE ONE : MLP route (DNGA1) + RQF Level 3 Gas Diploma + ACS

CCN1/CPA1/CENWAT/HTR1/CKR1

In-house training in the Centre for both theory and practical knowledge and home study course work. 5 days mini Assessments for both theory and practical. 5 days ACS Assessments. 

 

Learners must provide an on-site work based Portfolio, you must have a supervised Gas Safe Registered Engineer in place to be able to complete the Course.

 

COURSE 2 : MLP route (DNGA1) + ACS CCN1/CPA1/CENWAT/HTR1/CKR1

In-house training in the Centre for both theory and practical knowledge and home study course work. 5 days mini Assessments for both theory and practical. 5 days ACS Assessments. 

 

Learners must provide an on-site work based Portfolio, you must have a supervised Gas Safe Registered Engineer in place to be able to complete the Course.

 

COURSE 3 : MLP route (DNGA2) + ACS CCN1/CPA1/CENWAT/CKR1

In-house training in the Centre for both theory and practical knowledge and home study course work. 5 days mini Assessments for both theory and practical. 5 days ACS Assessments. 

 

Learners must provide an on-site work based Portfolio, you must have a supervised Gas Safe Registered Engineer in place to be able to complete the Course.

 

COURSE 4 : MLP route (DNGA3) + ACS CCN1/CPA1/CENWAT

In-house training in the Centre for both theory and practical knowledge and home study course work. 5 days mini Assessments for both theory and practical. 5 days ACS Assessments.

COURSE 5 : MLP route (DNGM) + ACS CCN1/METERS

In-house training in the Centre for both theory and practical knowledge and home study course work. 5 days mini Assessments for both theory and practical. 5 days ACS Assessments. 

 

Learners must provide an on-site work based Portfolio, you must have a supervised Gas Safe Registered Engineer in place to be able to complete the Course.
